This dense sketch book with 320 pages is a collection of Tilo Baumgärtels drawings from the years 2002 until 2008. Without framing, given interpretation, title or other information the book focusses on the rich pictorial language of the artist and gives an insight into his universe of images. Baumgärtel’s sketches conflate political propaganda, German historical figures, painterly conventions and pop culture imagery into whimsical cartoonish landscapes that are at once nostalgic and contemporary.
